Leadership
After 10 years in software development, I transitioned into leadership. I thrive on empowering others, sharing knowledge, and helping people reach their full potential. This approach has earned the trust of both my team and management.
By fostering an atmosphere of openness, trust, and inclusivity, I create space for diverse ideas to flourish. I believe that a transparent, positive culture is key to unlocking the collective strength of any team.
I’m excited to continue growing as a hands-on leader and am eager to take on more responsibility as I work towards an engineering manager role.
Software development
As a creative problem solver, I’m driven by challenges, regardless of the field — what matters is the opportunity to craft elegant solutions. While I enjoy greenfield projects and building from scratch, I approach maintaining or migrating existing projects with equal enthusiasm.
I excel in an iterative approach, refining and evolving projects as they progress. I’ve successfully built full-stack applications from the ground up, continually integrating and improving them with complex systems and APIs along the way.
My focus is on writing clean, reusable, and maintainable code following SOLID principles and favoring inversion of control over inheritance. I aim to create abstractions that empower developers to deliver better solutions faster.
Experience
Deliverect
Deliverect offers a software platform that streamlines the management of online food orders for restaurants. It consolidates orders from multiple third-party delivery platforms (like Uber Eats, DoorDash, Grubhub) into a restaurant’s POS system for greater efficiency.
2022 – 2025 Software Development Team Lead
I helped grow the developer teams and, then led the Dispatch team. Dispatch enables customers to replace costly marketplace delivery with third-party delivery, creating a seamless consumer experience. It was a promising product with an existing code base, that needed focused attention. So over six months, we refined it and began adding new features based on customer feedback and data-driven insights. One key outcome was the Courier app, allowing restaurateurs to manage their own delivery fleet.
During this time I tried to incorporate the 80-20 rule in the team and take a more iterative approach based on data insights and customer feedback.
- Iteratively eliminated bugs to reach a near 100% success rate on delivery jobs (KPI).
- Increased third party delivery jobs per month by 400% YoY (KPI).
- Lead the team to build out, and deploy a mobile application and backend, from the POC phase to production in ~2 months, before the deadline.
- Hiring manager, interviewing more than 2 third of all developers on our location (interviewed many more for other locations).
- Lead mixed discipline team of 8 (Backend, Frontend, UX, Mobile), conducting 1-1s, help setting goals and build on growth paths.
- Guided Personal Improvement Plans for underperforming team members.
- Participate in a committee that documents and approves architectural changes to the platform.
- Designed a data collection system for BI, that streams data to BigQuery in real time. Helping us take deliberate decisions and prioritising features and bugs.
- Build a mock integration to QA test dispatch, which is also used to emulate the delivery flows in demos.
- Built retry mechanisms to avoid revenue loss caused by third party errors or unforeseen circumstances.
- Implemented stateless testing for database heavy applications (Postgres, MongoDB, Hashicorp Vault).
- Implemented sentiment analysis for reviews using ML, leveraging Gemini and spaCy.
2021 – 2022 Senior Backend developer
During my early days with Deliverect, we were going through hyper growth. I was taking on responsibilities, such as onboarding and interviewing. At its peak, I was doing more than 30 interviews per month. We were building up teams of our main office Ghent and opening a new office in Amersfoort.
- Participate in a committee that documents and approves architectural changes to the platform.
- Streamlined the onboarding process, improved onboarding scripts, solved docker related issues and made sure the dev stack would run the first time, every time.
- Built an internal library to abstract OAuth logic.
- Played a key role in migrating secrets to HashiCorp Vault.
- Built an integration for order ingestion from an online ordering platform.
- Improved the REST based partner API.
- Increased the performance of a computationally heavy component, and applied caching across instances.
- As during my previous position I helped find a suitable office space and aided in listing requirements, selecting interior design options, etc.
Greenhost
Greenhost offers sustainable hosting and cloud services. Together with my team I am responsible for maintaining the customer portal as well as implementing new features. Aside from offering hosting services, Greenhost does projects around human rights funded by grants.
Aided in an office relocation project, gathering employee input on preferences for floor plans, meeting rooms, and recreational spaces. Collaborated with architects to design interior layouts, providing feedback and ensuring an optimal atmosphere and functionality of the workspace.
During my time with Greenhost I worked on:
